Project description

The local town government is taking my shop, to make way for a new Fire Station. I am now forced to sell off my 1971 Riviera that is in the middle of a complete, frame-off restoration. I would like to sell the entire project, including many extras from 3 other cars I have parted out as well as a large list of new parts that I have been buying for use on the rebuild. I will continue to update this page with more details and photos. Car is located in Cary, NC. The car was purchased in San Diego, CA in 2000 and used as a driver for 6 years, before beginning the restoration. It had about 80,000 mi on it at the time the restoration was begun.

VIN is 494871H904795; Color: Nocturne Blue ; no vinyl roof, (code 29 29). Pearl Interior, came with bucket seats and mini console. Assembled in Flint. Below are photos of the actual window sticker, a cleaned up window sticker, the cowl tag, cowl tag guide, the VIN and the engine number. All photos are clickable to see the full size versions. (use back button to return to this page)

In addition to the original sticker, I also have the original Bill of Sale, Protect-o-plate, owners manual, and other pieces of dealer paperwork from the original purchase.

As you can see on the actual sticker, there were several dealer installed options. Trunk release, cruise control, 8 Track, mini console, rear stabilizer bar, low fuel warning light and the engine dress up kit.

Details

As mentioned above, ideally I would sell all of this as a package. I believe $8,000 is a fair price, but let's talk if you are interested. As far as logistics; I can keep my current shop property until June 2016, so getting the project to the buyer can be as soon as desired, or postponed until sometime in the late Spring of 2016. I can help with loading and coordinating, but I can't provide shipping services.

Body is off the frame and on a rotiserrie, which would be included as part of the package. Rear quarters were rusted and poorly repaired when I got the car. So prior to separating the body and frame I repaired the quarters with patch panels from Classic Fabrication.

Floors boards have not been addressed yet, there are a couple holes to be fixed. In addition, the passenger side of the trunk floor has a spot that needs repair where one of the body mounts is located.

Engine has been completely torn down. Rebuilding is underway using new bearings, reworked heads and a Comp Cams timing set.

Frame is stripped of all line, suspension and brackets, and is ready for sandblasting.

I have all new hard lines including gas, brake Trans cooling, fuel pump and vapor lines from the Right Stuff in Ohio. In addition to the original 2.93 open rear end, I also have a 3.42 posi. Old exhaust system, including resonators, has all been kept for template or possible re-use.

I am the second owner. Car has bucket seats and came with dealer installed mini console and under dash 8 track. Included are the factory parts to add a full console with shifter, including the steering column collar without the shifter. Other interesting options are a factory rear stabilizer bar (very rare in 1971),

reading lamp in the sunvisor center clip, power windows, factory air. Power door locks have been added using factory parts from another car. The dealer installed trailer hitch and litter basket options are both gone.
